Pumpkin Pie Spice Quick Facts

- Pumpkin pie spice blend was commercialized during the early 20th century; the first company to create “ready-mixed pumpkin pie spice” was Thompson & Taylor; it included a secret list of 9 spices
- Spiced pumpkin foods were mostly desserts in the 20th century until the popularity of the pumpkin spice latte in 2003, which was encouraged by Starbucks (they were not the first to develop it, but they drove its popularity)
