BATTLE OF THE BOOKS IS BACK IN 2023!
The North Country Library System’s Battle of the Books is a regional book trivia competition coordinated by public and school libraries in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. The competition is for grades 4-6 and is trivia-based. The questions asked come from a specific list of books that participants read in preparation for the competition. Books are chosen for the competition by literary professionals and are available through Flower Memorial Library. The regional competition will be held on May 20th at the St. James School in Gouverneur. In order to compete on the regional level, your team must win your library’s local battle. Registration is required. The deadline is March 3rd, 2023. Flower Memorial Library’s local battle will be held on April 22nd at 9:30am.

February 1 – March 3: Team Registration
Teams must register at Flower Memorial Library with Mrs. Jamie. REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.
March 7 at 6:00pm: Meet the Teams Event
Join other participants for some food, fun, and decorating! Meet your competition while you decorate team merchandise. Bring your t-shirts and poster board to decorate for your team. All other craft materials will be provided! You must sign up for this event in order to participate. This event is not mandatory.
March 28th at 6:00pm: Tip Workshop
Need some help figuring out what to do after reading? Have any last minute questions you need answered? Join other teams for a workshop at the library. Be prepared—we may hold a mock battle! This event is not mandatory.
April 22nd at 9:30am: Local Battle
The local competition begins! Will your team survive? All teams must be present on this date. Warning: plan to spend a fun-filled day at your library!
May 20th: Regional Battle at St. James School
Only the first place team from Flower Library will continue on to battle against other first place teams from around the North Country. The battles will take place at the St. James School in Gouverneur.
