April Spice Club – Celery Seed

Try something new! Our featured spice for the month of April is Celery Seed. You’re welcome to pick up a Spice Club kit beginning Monday April 1st at 9am. The kit will contain:

  • a sample of the spice
  • recipe cards
  • history of the spice
  • a list of cookbooks you can check out from the library

Celery Seed Quick Facts

  • Celery is a herbaceous plant of the parsley family
  • It’s tiny seed-like fruits are known as celery seed and are used as a seasoning, especially in soups and pickles
  • Celery seed tastes like the food celery and smells similarly too
  • Celery is native to the Mediterranean areas and the Middle East
  • In ancient times, celery was used as flavoring by the ancient Greeks and Romans and as a medicine by the ancient Chinese
