Class and Group Visits
School groups or other local organizations are welcome to visit
the library! Visits are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact
the Children's Librarian at 785-7709 for available dates. Please
call a minimum of two weeks in advance to schedule a visit or
workshop. Application forms are available if students wish to get
library cards.
Preschool visits may include a storytime, craft, and
browsing time.
School age (Grades K-6)
visits may include a tour, stories, an orientation to library
services, basic library skills instruction, research time, browsing
and checkout. Design your own visit from the options above, or
choose one of our themed visits below.
Each themed visit
includes a library tour, story, activity, craft, and
browsing/checkout time if students wish to get library cards. The
clue activities are a fun way to help students discover and remember
where resources in the Children's Room are located and will make
their library visit a memorable one! Suggested time for each visit
is 1.5 hours.
Library Detectives
Starting with the story
The Web Files by Margie Palatini, students will become
Library Detectives! The program includes their very own case to
solve - The Dirty Rat and the Stolen Crafts. Students will follow
clues around the children's room to find the location of their
missing decoder watch craft projects, which they can put together
once they've solved the case!
Library Pirates
Arrrggghhh! Students will
get into the pirate spirit with a couple of great pirate stories,
then follow the treasure map clues around the children's room to
find a hidden surprise! After the activity, kids can make their own
pirate spyglass to take home.
Workshops on planning and conducting storytimes or on
selecting developmentally appropriate literature for children
(infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school age) are available upon
request for high school and college classes as well as community
agencies serving youth and parents.
