Lending Rules & Procedures

Borrowers must have a current library card. 

 

Loan Periods

Except for the items specified below as high demand, library materials that circulate are loaned for 28 days.  Some categories of library materials such as reference books and microfilm do not circulate.

Material in High Demand

New books - fiction 7 days

New books - fiction with 500+ pages

14 days
New books - non-fiction 14 days
Magazines 7 days
Civil Service study guides 7 days
Music CDs 14 days
Videos & DVDs 7 days

(A $1.00 charge per loan period applies for feature films;
       there is no charge for classified, i.e. documentary and instructional films.)

Renewals

You may request two renewals of the loan periods on your library materials at the Circulation desk or over the phone by calling 785-7705.   Exception: because there is an additional fee of $1.00 per loan period for the renewal of videos and DVDs, these items will be renewed only at the Circulation Desk.

 

 

Overdue Fines and other Charges

Fines
Adult items $.10 per day
Juvenile items $.02 per day
All videos & DVDs $1.00 per day

Maximum Fine will not exceed $5.00 per item for adults and $2.00 per item for children.
When an item is 56 days overdue, the patron will be billed for the replacement cost.

Lost item

Library borrowers will be charged $25.00 for each lost item plus a processing fee.  

Damaged item

Library borrowers will be charged for the replacement & processing cost of an item.    

A borrower becomes delinquent whenever there are 5 or more items overdue or when the amount of fines reaches $2.00 or more. The delinquent status prevents further borrowing with the card.

 

 

Item limits on Certain Materials

There is an overall limit of 30 items per library card.

Loan limits are on the following:

  • 2  Civil Service Test books
  • 5  Periodicals (Adult)
  • 5  Periodicals (Juvenile)
  • 4  Videos/DVDs
  • 3 Music CD's
  • 4 Children's Books per subject or series

The library reserves the right to adjust the number of items circulated to an individual by subject, format, or other criterion, as may be deemed appropriate in specific instances.

 

 

Holds/Interlibrary Loan

If you find that an item you need is not available, you may interlibrary loan the item. The staff at the circulation desk will take your reserves either in person or over the phone. Notification of availability will be provided primarily by email. A fee of $.25 is charged for mail notification via postcard.
